There are any number now of casinos that offer some version of the No Deposit Promotion for various amounts of free money. Some are very restrictive as to what games can be played and what happens to any money that is won from free play. Some of the more progressive sites are offering the promotion with no restrictions at all. This is a huge gap in site philosophy and the treatment of players. Some sites seem more concerned about the little money they are giving away and the possible big score that a player may get. Others do not seem to care at all and their play through requirements show the lack of concern. It is like a skin flint miser versus a fragrant money spender. Players respond to the latter better than the tight site. In fact the tight site may be doing harm to themselves by being so restrictive on what can be done with the money. In some cases they may well be better off if they discontinued the promotion as the players are up in arms when they find out how little of a site they can try with the free money. Making players angry with stupid policies is not a very good business model to continue. Sites that realized that players are not able to forgive slights that they feel have come their way, are smart to remove all restrictions on the free money except a modest play through requirement. Let a player play any game that is offered and let the chips fall where they may. This thought process is a winner with most players and should not cost a great deal more to the sites that operate this way.
By stopping the nickel and dime thinking and acting like a gambling site, the sites that adopt this idea are going to get a better reaction from the players that they get to play. This is the result they are after and any policy that takes away from this way of thinking is not productive.
In fact it can be counter productive in the long run.
There is little reason to have a promotion that makes players mad at the site. This is the opposite reaction to the one the site is trying to promote. Sites are beginning to realize that they need to change tactics, and take into consideration the way players are reacting to free play restrictions.
